Aaron Gilmurray
Group Finance Director
Since 2012
"I’m involved in all things numbers, making sure the business runs smoothly behind the scenes and keeping an eye on the bigger picture to drive growth."
  • Tell us about your role?
I joined The Rocksalt Group back in 2012 and have over the years worked my way up to Group Finance Director, where my role is all about making sense of the numbers that keep the business ticking. From forecasting and analysing to margins and strategy, I get to see beneath the hood of how everything operates. The hospitality industry is fast-paced, and no two days are the same—one minute I’m crunching numbers, the next I’m working with our teams to find efficiencies and drive profitability. Seeing the final product, from the atmosphere in our venues to the food on the plate, is what makes it all worthwhile.
  • What’s the best part of the job?
For me, it’s all about understanding the mechanics of the business—how everything fits together, from the kitchens to the front of house, suppliers, and customers. It’s one thing to look at a spreadsheet, but seeing those numbers come to life in a buzzing pub or a packed restaurant makes it all real. I love working with the team to turn ideas into action, making sure we stay profitable while delivering the best experience possible for our customers.
  • What’s your favourite venue & why?
That has to be Radnor Arms. It’s just a five-minute walk from my house, which is dangerously convenient! The food is consistently amazing, and the atmosphere is always spot on, whether it’s a midweek dinner or a lively weekend service. It’s my go-to spot when I want great food and a relaxed setting close to home.
  • And second choice?
It has to be The Pilot—there’s no better place to be in the summer than out on the beach with a cold beer in hand. Sun shining, good company, and a proper pint—what more do you need?
  • Hobbies & Fun Fact?
I’ve recently taken up padel and am hooked. When I’m not playing, I’m usually keeping up with Leeds United, hoping for better days ahead. I’m also into history—whether it’s a good podcast or a book, there’s always something new to learn. Unfortunately for my partner, that sometimes means long monologues about the Battle of Salamis—usually right when we’re trying to watch a series. And when I need a break from it all, I’m out on a walk with my Springer Spaniel.
